About In God's PocketIn God’s Pocket is a fellowship of musicians and singers that is growing out of the South Jersey area. Although it has been several years in the making, the current monthly fellowship of musicians started May of 2009. While it started as musicians only, singers are also encouraged to attend.“Pocket” is a term used by musicians to describe how a musician plays their instrument in a group. Some one playing “in the pocket” is adding to the total sound without drawing too much attention to either them or their instrument. Playing “in God’s pocket” adds the responsibility of playing in a way that is pleasing to God and advances His agenda. Minstrels are ministers of God who use music as their medium. There is often a misunderstanding of the musician’s role in the church. As a result, musicians often don’t fully understand how to use their musical gifts to really minister. Worse yet, local churches have lowered their expectations concerning musicians. In addition many musicians seek to improve on their skills, talents, ministry, etc often with no one to help them along the way. The vision of IGP is to see this reversed, restoring God’s original intent for musicians and providing an environment where musicians can continually perfect their skills according to God’s will for their life.
